What Is CryoPen Precision Cryotherapy?

CryoPen (or Cryopen) is a modern cryotherapy device that uses a fine, high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide (N₂O) to freeze and remove benign skin lesions with precision. It’s designed for minimal damage to surrounding healthy skin, quick treatment times, and relative comfort.

What Can It Treat

CryoPen is used to treat a variety of benign (non-cancerous) skin lesions, for example:

  • Skin tags

  • Warts/verrucae
  • Milia (tiny white cysts)
  • Cherry angiomas (small red/vascular blemishes)
  • Age spots,  sun damage, and pigmentation (“liver spots”, sun spots)
  • Other benign pigmented / vascular or small raised lesions.

How CryoPen Works (Mechanism / Procedure)

  1. Freezing via Nitrous Oxide

    • The device emits a narrow, high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide (N₂O) gas, which is extremely cold.

    • The jet is applied directly to the lesion; healthy skin around is spared due to the precision of the applicator.
  2. Cell Damage via Ice Formation

    • The extreme cold causes the intercellular fluid within cells of the lesion to freeze, forming ice crystals, which rupture cell membranes.

    • The treated lesion tissue is destroyed, then over time falls off or is reabsorbed as healing occurs.
  3. Treatment Duration

    • Very fast: many lesions treated in 5-25 seconds, depending on size/depth.

    • Some larger or deeper lesions may need longer or more than one treatment session.

Number of Sessions & Treatment Frequency

  • Often, one session suffices for small, superficial lesions.
  • For larger, more stubborn, or deeper lesions, multiple sessions spaced ~2-4-6 weeks apart may be needed.

Key Benefits

  • Highly precise; minimizes damage to surrounding healthy skin.
  • Quick procedure; short treatment times.
  • Minimal discomfort; no anesthesia in most cases.
  • Safe for delicate areas (face, around eyes, etc.) because of controlled applicator precision.
  • Low risk of scarring, especially if aftercare is followed well.

Risks / Limitations & Contraindications

  • Temporary pain/discomfort during the freezing moment.
  • Possible redness, swelling afterward; sometimes blister or scab formation.
  • Pigment changes: the treated area may become darker or lighter than surrounding skin temporarily; more risk in darker skin types.
  • Some lesions may not completely resolve in one session, requiring follow-ups.
